Mahler, Gustav (1860 - 1911): Born into a Jewish family, Mahler converted to Catholicism to escape the anti-semitic attitudes prevalent in Vienna and later composed one of the early 20th century's great Pantheistic works, "Das Lied von der Erde", settings of Chinese songs contemplating the relationships between death and Nature.
